It's about what war does to people's natures and what it can and cannot destroy. Kidman and Law are excellent and Zellweger is worth every molecule of that Oscar. The rest of the cast are fabulous too - look out for many, many familiar faces, including a cruel and lecherous Ray Winstone. I mean in 2045 we will suddenly here how great this film was by then brains will have evolved to make us realise that is film was closer to the civil war period than any movie ever made including Lincoln, This is one man’s story of a fight to go home , And with a cast of Oscar winning actors it must get 5 stars no question about that ! I mean I’m Pretty sure it won at least one Oscar against a heavy hitter list that year , The performances are outrageous Ray Winston is so good I forgot he is from London , This is an epic like the 1960’s they don’t make films like this anymore and they didn’t make them at the time Dances with Wolves is probably the only thing close to this as an epic , It’s a film so good that it gets no praise anywhere because it doesn’t need it , It’s stands there and says here I am Cold Mountain I will make you laugh I make you cry but I never be boring no Sir .
