Gareth V @geewah Oct 16, 2026 It’s more about the man than the game, and it takes liberties with the truth, but it’s smart, funny and moving, and you don’t need to love football to enjoy it. See more Shane B @RT65534849 Jun 10, 2026 It’s 95% fiction which renders it unwatchable. So may pivotal parts of the film’s story are made up completely or twisted inaccuracy. People portrayed in the film have successfully sued the producers as a result. I don’t understand why this film was made. It’s one big lie for no reason because the underlying story is interesting enough to just tell it. See more Blake- N @PBSAniDom Apr 27, 2026 The Damned United is easily one of my favorite films connected to BBC Films. It’s a sharp, character-driven sports drama that stands out by focusing more on personality, ego, and pressure than just the game itself. What makes it so compelling is how intense and engaging it feels without needing big, flashy moments. The story pulls you in through its strong writing and performances, creating a tense and often uncomfortable look at ambition and rivalry. Even if you’re not deeply into football, it’s still easy to get invested because of how human everything feels. The pacing is tight, and the tone stays consistent, giving it a focused and memorable edge compared to many sports films. Overall, it’s a gripping and well-crafted movie. I’d rate it an 8/10—one of the most interesting and engaging sports dramas out there. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jul 7, 2025 1 hour and 37 minutes based on a true story. Rated R for Language. See more Mason W @RT57124725 Mar 2, 2025 The Damned United is a Worth Watch Football Film casting with Martin Sheen as Brian Clough who plays a brilliant role in this story, it’s a funny short Film that only takes up hour n half but if your a fan of dirty Leeds, you should enjoy this film See more John C @RT25427934 Sep 10, 2024 I don't mind football, but I doubt I could watch a movie containing lot of it, which is probably why I enjoyed The Damned United. It charts Brian Clough's ill-fated move from Derby to Leeds where he comes uncharacteristically unstuck in his managerial attempts. Martin Sheen is (as always) brilliant at playing the self appointed `greatest manager in England' and he's backed up by the equally excellent Timothy Spall and Jim Broadbent. You don't have to love, or even know much about, football to like this film. It's about someone who isn't quite as clever as he thinks he is. Therefore you can't help but take a little bit of evil delight in his fall from grace. However, although Clough isn't always the genius he believes himself to be, he's never far from it. So, even when he's down, you know he won't be there for long. Good British drama - very entertaining. See more Read all reviews
