Jan 29, 2017 Overall decent film. The plot is kinda simple but an enjoyable piece of art. See more Jul 6, 2016 Beautiful, reflective black and white French film. See more Jan 16, 2016 Believe it or not, the story happens during the second world war. The germans are not much present, but their influence is felt. Beautiful and intriguing story about beauty and life. God is proven in this film. I wonder if the story is true because the end seems a bit of non-sense, even though it probably means he accomplished what he wanted. It seems bizarre and out of character. See more Jul 25, 2015 I love Jean Rochefort, I love Claudia Cardinale, and I love Chus Lempeave. I am impressed by the beautiful newcomer who plays the refugee. I just don't like the movie, though Trueba is a favorite of mine. The story is predictable, the old man who is supposed to be full of wisdom seems full of hot air. I've just been reading about artists and the role of their models, and this movie doesn't seem to go very deep into the question. Claudia Cardinale is given a thankless job as a model who no longer inspires her husband. There is an attempt at a political subplot, at a German subplot. Jean's sculptor is no Robin, and the whole view of women is sadly limited: they are there to serve food, clean up, or pose nude. Oh yes, and listen to the men's wisdom. Disappointing.
