Marco L @decatur555 Aug 20 Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile surprised me by focusing less on Ted Bundy’s crimes than on the people who believed the version of himself he carefully created. Zac Efron uses his familiar charm very effectively, showing why Bundy could appear convincing without ever excusing what he was. But Lily Collins is the real center of the film. Her character’s denial, emotional dependence and gradual confrontation with reality make the story far more interesting than a conventional serial-killer biopic. Joe Berlinger sometimes loses focus when the courtroom material takes over, but the film is strongest when it explores manipulation and the difficulty of accepting that someone you love may be completely different from the person you thought you knew. I expected very little and was genuinely surprised by how well it worked.
