What to Know

Critics Consensus

While not without its nostalgic charms, Rob Reiner's sometimes awkward adaptation of Wendelin Van Draanen's childhood novel doesn't reach the heights of the director's earlier work like Stand By Me.

At times, the movie feels like a commercial for Wonder Bread, stretched to feature length. Go to Full Review

Flipped is as phony as a poodle-skirted waitress at a mall diner, yet it's as sweet as a malt. A vanilla one. Go to Full Review

Though told in a somewhat cutesy, sock-hop style, Flipped works well as a film about character that entertains the tween/teen set without preaching at them. Go to Full Review

Mario B. @MarioGB 1d Just a wonderful movie See more Branka B @Branka 3d It is truly one of the best movies I’ve watched. It is emotional, gentle, and beautifully told. The story follows two children who develop feelings for each other at different times, and eventually find their way back to one another in a very natural and meaningful way. I especially loved how the movie shows two different families. Juli’s family represents healthy, supportive parenting — you can clearly see how love and strong values help raise a wise and kind child with a big heart. Bryce’s family is also caring, especially with his grandfather as a positive and warm influence. The film gently shows how a parent’s inner struggles can affect family dynamics, but without making it dramatic or negative. The movie feels nostalgic and pure. It captures teenage emotions so honestly — pride, vulnerability, misunderstanding, and growth. The scenes, cinematography, costumes, and styling are beautiful and really bring the time period to life. It honestly made me cry and smile at the same time. See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 4d Flipped quietly arrived on Netflix but proves to be a surprisingly well-crafted and engaging film. Told through two shifting perspectives, the story moves back and forth between its main characters without becoming confusing or repetitive. What could have felt distracting instead adds emotional depth, allowing viewers to see how perception shapes the same events differently. The screenplay is thoughtfully structured, and the direction gives the film a polished, cinematic quality rather than a typical streaming feel. Both lead performances are exceptional, carrying the emotional weight with authenticity and strong chemistry. Even the supporting cast is efficiently used, strengthening the narrative without unnecessary filler. Overall, Flipped is a smart, emotionally grounded film that exceeds expectations and delivers a compelling, well-executed story.
