Critics Consensus

Rampant amorality and sensationalist flourishes give this crime thriller a rich coat of grime, but Foxy Brown's powerful center lies in Pam Grier's commanding performance.

As handled by Hill, the sensationalistic elements seem both natural and marginal. Grier as Foxy would be fun to watch even if she kept her clothes on and her claws in.

This is fun action sleaze from the classic era of drive-in blaxploitation films, driven by the no-nonsense direction of Jack Hill, and did well enough at the box office to help put the still-gorgeous Pam Grier on the map. Don't miss it.

The film is dated, but its mixed message -- and its potential to offend virtually everyone -- still makes it a powerful discussion starter.

Even with the critical reevaluation given to blaxploitation flicks in recent decades, Foxy Brown is still viewed as a lesser entry. Yet I dug it.

It can’t live up to the excitement and hipness generated by its predecessor, though it would go on to be incredibly influential and successful for the genre.

Brutally dehumanizing black exploitation film pandering to racial prejudices and sadism.

I have long heard that Foxy Brown was one of the Blaxploitation films to see, but honestly it is quite the disappointment. It is a weak vigilante film. The acting is pretty bad, the story bland and Pam Grier just can't save it. Seeing a younger Sid Haig was cool though.

The acting might need some improving and there were moments that were pretty dated. But overall a good film

The lead actress is quite compelling. The movie feels like it leans too much on her sex appeal though. Some of the support actors weren't great. Still, plenty of action and not a bad effort overall.

Grier's sassiness is the glue that holds it together, and the film's abundance of attitude compensates a lot for its technical shortcomings. Foxy Brown is a must if you're into cult classics.
