Michael D @MichaelX 15h Approach this Netflix documentary by director Rory Kennedy with whatever peace of mind you can muster, because it will send your blood pressure soaring. After watching, I checked our upcoming Thai Airways flight to Chiang Mai, relieved to find an Airbus A320. I’m not sure I’ll willingly board a Boeing again anytime soon. A follow-up to 2022’s "Downfall: The Case Against Boeing", this documentary meticulously connects the dots of rot: a culture of cost-cutting and retaliation that led to fatal crashes and the deeply suspicious death of whistleblower John Barnett. Infuriating and illuminating in equal measure, it perfectly illustrates Cory Doctorow’s concept of "enshittification", except here, enshittification kills people. Three consecutive straight white male CEOs presided over this catastrophe and not one has faced criminal charges. This is another sad and sorry dispatch from the annals of American corporate decline. The actual causes of the MCAS nose dives and the missing door plug bolts, and Boeing's obstruction of the investigations, is not fully covered and in fact is even more damning of the company. The various whistle-blowers are given a good platform here and their characters are nicely presented, so I guess that's what this movie adds to the previous installment. See more dlma1 M @dlma1 Aug 24 Remember the old saying "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going"? Not anymore. Three of the CEOs at Boeing who followed Jack Welch's (of GE "fame") business policies of cost cutting over attention to detail resulted in rebuilds and tragically - the deaths of 346 people. The documentary details the company's bad policy of using outsourcing to cut costs which resulted in poor quality aircraft. And any quality inspectors were pushed aside or, in at least one case, driven to suicide. This documentary will make you angry and sad that a great American company's reputation has been tarnished by grossly incompetent management who were rewarded with gigantic bonuses while causing the deaths of hundreds of people. I hope that the new CEO Kelly Ortberg (an engineer by training) will turn the company around. It really revealed how corrupt these big corporations are and how hard it is to really bring justice to big corporations. See more Michael W @mawilps Aug 22 This documentary was really good. The entire crew did a fantastic job on revealing what the famous aviation company Boeing has been doing for years. It reveals everything about why companies like Boeing will do anything to keep secrets and not do anything to fix them. The Boeing whistleblowers are very brave to tell their stories about Boeing.
