Ollie W @RT90619198 5d Very trashy, very low-brow, incredibly silly but somewhat entertaining. The storyline isn’t particularly interesting. Most of it takes part in a single house. It isn’t scary but there are some fun, totally over the top gore reminiscent of The Thing or David Cronenberg. If you’ve seen other films by director Stuart Gordon, they have a very distinct look and feel and vibe, which is on display again here. None of the acting is good. Despite the occasionally campy visuals of the practical effects, the film’s exploration of sensory expansion and cosmic terror is genuinely unsettling. It manages to balance a high-concept Lovecraftian premise with a tactile, sticky atmosphere that makes it a must-watch for fans of visceral, experimental horror.
