See more Daniel S Dec 25 An Expensive Way to Say "Trust Me, It’s Deep" The Godfather Part III is often treated like the embarrassing cousin everyone pretends doesn’t exist. Honestly? That’s giving the whole trilogy too much credit. This film isn’t some shocking downfall, it’s simply another stop on the same uneven road, just with better lighting and louder opera. To be fair, it looks great. Cinematography? Gorgeous. Locations? Expensive and classy, as expected. The music does most of the emotional heavy lifting, because someone had to. Direction is competent, polished, and very aware of its own importance. You can almost hear the film whispering, "This is cinema," while desperately hoping you don’t ask too many questions. Performance-wise, it’s a mixed bag, which feels on-brand by now. Al Pacino spends most of the film oscillating between tired regret and theatrical intensity, clearly unsure whether he’s playing a man haunted by his past or just reacting to the script in real time. While parts one and two, despite their quality, often suffer from their excessive length and seem tedious in places, this film feels truly well-rounded to me for the first time. Al Pacino plays Michael Corleone here in a more controlled and at the same time more intense manner than before, less explosive, but significantly more mature. Andy Garcia is an enormous asset and manages to be present as the second central character without overshadowing Pacino, which noticeably benefits the film's dynamics. The plot itself is more straightforward, more focused and no longer loses itself so much in subplots. This creates a clearer sense of purpose and closure that was often lacking in the previous instalments. The Godfather Part III is not a flawless film, but it feels like a real conclusion, emotionally coherent, more calmly told and overall more satisfying than expected.
