Groundswell is the stirring final chapter of a groundbreaking documentary trilogy following Kiss the Ground and Common Ground, a sweeping cinematic journey across 5 continents and narrated by Demi Moore and Woody Harrelson. At the heart of this film is regeneration, a practical and proven set of farming practices that build living soil, store vast amounts of carbon deep underground, and produce more nutrient-dense food on the same acre of land. It is measurable. This movement toward a regenerative form of agriculture that's better for human health is taking hold. Across the globe, farmers, scientists, Indigenous leaders, and visionaries are already proving it at scale, quietly reversing three interconnected crises racing toward humanity: climate change, species extinction, and catastrophic soil loss. Carbon is being drawn deep into the earth. Grasslands are breathing again. Rivers are running clean. Species are returning. Yields are climbing as soil comes back to life. In the film's closing moments, His Majesty Prince William steps forward to introduce pioneering regenerative rancher Gabe Brown, passing the torch from one generation of stewards to the next. A groundswell of hope and a living blueprint for global renewal. Together, Kiss the Ground (narrated by Woody Harrelson, with Gisele Bündchen, Tom Brady, and Patricia Arquette), Common Ground (featuring Laura Dern, Jason Momoa, Rosario Dawson, Donald Glover, and Woody Harrelson), and Groundswell form an Earth-saving trilogy tracking the regenerative agriculture story from ignition to reckoning to culmination. Kiss the Ground brought soil health into the mainstream through a big-tent, celebrity-and-scientist narrative. Common Ground pushed past the "why" into the "what's blocking it," spotlighting policy, power, and public health while elevating farmer-led solutions and systems accountability. Groundswell closes the arc, connecting the solutions for climate change, species loss, and soil loss into one global call for regeneration.

John Anderson Wall Street Journal Jun 5, 2026
The music is danceable, the editing is sprightly. There’s an idealist’s energy here that grows a bit too earnest, but the information is accessible. And basic. Even home gardeners might dig it, as they contemplate buying chickens. Go to Full Review

And here’s another doc in which earnestness and good intentions aren’t nearly enough. Go to Full Review

By harnessing the upbeat energy of its participants and providing audiences with the information to help them support and reward farmers leading the regenerative revolution, the film provides an accessible call to action. Go to Full Review
Christopher Campbell Nonfics (Substack) Jun 5, 2026
It’s commendable for showcasing not just proposed solutions but effective efforts to reverse the threat...However, it’s the kind of documentary that packs in so much information that it’s still as overwhelming as any doom-and-gloom issue film. Go to Full Review

This film is the third in a trilogy and may be the best yet, thanks to its expansive ambition and globally inclusive framework. Go to Full Review

For a film advocating for change, we hereby advocate for a change in this kind of middling production, focusing instead on a multiplicity of competing voices rather than simply a feel-good survey of cherry-picked stories that buttress a given argument. Go to Full Review

Brayden M @BraydenMilanovic Oct 19, 2026 "Groundswell", like the other two films in Joshua and Rebecca Tickell’s regenerative agriculture trilogy, is a film about regenerative agriculture. Our soil is at the mercy of many degrading factors, and the Tickell’s films show how regeneration can reverse destructive impacts to ensure a better future. But where "Groundswell" differs from its counterparts is in its scope. The film is something of a world tour, seeing the crew travel to different countries across the globe to see how their regenerative practices and their soil differ to those of other communities. The documentarians find that these different places face very different challenges. Nevertheless, regenerative farming presents itself as an effective solution to each of these issues. More than ever before, the Tickell’s solidify regenerative agriculture's capacity to conjure great change with "Groundswell" by showcasing how regenerative practices have been able to counter a wide variety of environmental disparities. See more Ray T @RT88062552 Oct 16, 2026 Narrated by Woody Harrelson and Demi Moore, directed by Joshua and Rebeca Tickell, Groundswell presents itself as a hopeful response to the looming questions surrounding climate change. There is a cyclical route taken in this movie, where the audience is first placed in a condition to understand local farmers, then it transitions globally. This was primarily within the Samburu Tribe, and their concern of poaching in Kenya. Their connection to elephants as keystone species with regeneration through their fertilization of the land and poly-cropping with the seeds was a strong representation of the trickle-down effect displayed in industrial consequence. By protecting this species, they were able to lean fully into regenerative farming while preventing poach hunters from attacking the elephants. The transience of emotion shown in this film makes their versatility so valuable, that such a film is able to incorporate so many issues that share a common root (pun intended). See more Brennan C @carrbrennan Oct 14, 2026 A heartwarming conclusion, Groundswell reminds us of the interconnectedness of spaceship Earth and all its peoples. Directors Josh and Rebecca Tickell address criticisms by incorporating a global cast, unmatched in cultural diversity. From Colombia to Uganda, among many others, the film goes to great lengths to recognize the contributions indigenous peoples have made to the regenerative movement. Colombia was particularly insightful, and it is fascinating to see how regenerative coffee farmers like Ruben Dario and Juan Carlos Ardila use other crop species to enhance the quality of their coffee beans. Returning voices like Gabe Brown and Woody Harrelson provide a sense of cozy familiarity, while the addition of Demi Moore added a variety that helped the film to stand apart. Groundswell is a film for everyone, made possible by people of all colors and creeds, and that is its greatest strength. See more Addison A @AliceLee1210 Oct 7, 2026 Groundswell is one of those films capable of making you feel like you just backpacked around the world in 2 hours. Joshua and Rebecca Tickell take you around the world, from India, to Brazil, to the United States and more, allowing the audience to see the impact regenerative farming has beyond our scope of understanding. They dive deeper into all of the regenerative tactics and how it applies to the issues faced by many other countries. Demi Moore narrates, and her voice provides a warm welcome to the viewers, drawing you into everything she is ready to discuss. In the opening, her narration is paired with beautiful animations, recreating the history of civilization in 3D. Overall, this movie combines everything beloved about the first two films in the trilogy, and takes it one step beyond America. See more Ceceile J @RT89392719 Jun 29, 2026 The first two films of the directors Rebecca and Joshua Tickell's trilogy stand very well on their own, and their award-winning film, Groundswell, is no exception. Directors Rebecca and Joshua Tickell are so skilled at creating an experience that works well as an introduction for those new to the regenerative agriculture conversation, as well as at capturing the movement's growth and expansion for returning viewers. The film takes a journey to visit thriving regenerative farms around the world. It captures the narrative that naturally unfolds from following with such consideration. With recurring appearances of farmer and prominent figure in the regenerative moment, Gabe Brown, advocating for farmers and sharing his story of the work he has done and continues to do for the regenerative movement. The film wonderfully showcases how grand the movement has become and how many passionate people are dedicating their lives to saving the planet, nourish the land, and support farmers. See more Meghann W @meggie1995 Jun 23, 2026 I couldn't stop smiling while watching Groundswell. The further I got into the film, the more hopeful, energized and inspired I felt. What I loved most is that it doesn't just focus on the challenges. It shows real people and real solutions already making a difference around the world. From carbon markets to tree-based agriculture, this film reminded me that regeneration isn't just something for the future. It's already happening all around the world. It's also the kind of film that leaves you noticing something new each time you watch it. Groundswell left me feeling motivated to keep learning, keep sharing and keep helping spread this message.
