Critics Consensus

There's an abundance of gore in this derivative horror movie, but little sense or wit.

Rob Zombie's House of 1000 Corpses has nostalgia on its side but not much else.

A tour-de-farce of depressing inanity, that's unable to do anything more than offer a messy, incoherent pastiche of other, better movies.

Zombie wants his film to be gleefully demented, but he fails to grasp that loud, inbred evil people torturing stupid, grating benign people isn't disturbing as much as tedious.

It seems like Rob saw films like Texas Chainsaw, Halloween, and Salem’s Lot, as a child and wondered to himself, “What goes on in the parts of these movies that I don’t get to see?

Works best as a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit, but is otherwise a derivative mixtape of Zombie's biggest influences.

Even if it's not a great movie, I wish every horror movie were more like this movie. We'd all have a lot more fun come Halloween, squirming in a chair like we're meant to.

Frighteningly derivative, especially of Texas Chainsaw, this movie is my first Rob Zombie film I watched. It was so grimy and dingy and a lot of those high contrast sequences were so bad and unnecessary. It was not scary at all and was poorly made but I can see why people might like it. Baby's a*s crack was the best part.

Captain Spaulding was cool. Very strange, entertaining to look at, but got kinda boring and seemed to have a messy plot. Good nonsense slasher madness fun if you like that stuff.

House of 1000 Corpses is honestly kinda decent for a Rob Zombie movie, although I felt it was kind of slow at some points for the movie. But House of 1000 Corpses was still a pretty good watch.
