Alain and Marie move to a quiet suburb. A mysterious tunnel in the cellar of their new home will turn their lives upside down.

Critics Consensus

Like its very literal title, Incredible But True grounds the wacky and the outrageous with a poignant albeit lengthy exploration of mid-life crisis.

Incredible But True is a masterpiece of tragicomic invention, and itself a genuine Impossible Object.

This is a loopy lament for all the little bits of life we had to set aside just for a moment, only to never find again. But don’t worry, it also features a guy with a malfunctioning electronic penis.

It is a sensorial experience, absurd and delirious, but capable of nourishing itself with the inexplicable to embody a world that has long questioned all logic. [Full review in Spanish]

While nice and at certain moments fascinating, this fable about the obsession with male sexual potency and eternal female youth is a bit clumsy, redundant and half-baked. [Full review in Spanish]

Overall, once again, Director and Writer Quentin Dupieux doesn't disappoint. He delivers another creative film filled with random gags, unpredictable outcomes, touching themes, and positive messages. It's a story that successfully hooks its audiences quickly as it introduces an exciting tale with a slice of mystery. Incredible But True's small cast thankfully all differ from each other, bringing plenty of variety. The quirky soundtrack reminded me of old-school video games, which, again, matched the storyline and its touch of fantasy. It's another excellent addition to a stunning line-up of well-made films from Quentin Dupieux, and this is truly an "incredible" time- it's true!
