When teenager Quinn Brenner (Stefanie Scott) senses that her late mother is trying to contact her, she seeks help from gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye). However, Elise's tragic past makes her reluctant to use her abilities. After Quinn is attacked by a malevolent entity, her father (Dermot Mulroney) pleads with Elise for help. With support from two parapsychologists, Elise ventures deep into The Further -- where she finds a powerful demon with an insatiable craving for human souls.

The quiet stretches actually serve their purpose here, creating a sense of intimacy with the characters as opposed to simply marking time between the shocks.

THIS WAS LIKE A BIT OF A MEH!! With A BIT OF A COOL!!. The BGM score is the best; like, this franchise is best known for its screeching violins, this time with another element. I felt it was kinda cool because not wanting to have the same vibe. I loved the jump scares and the tension; there was this 2 particular scenes that I really enjoyed. The actors were great, especially Lin Shay, who nailed it as usual. The new demon's look was pretty innovative. The demon's need, or what it wanted, was kinda not impressive for me; it's like they added these new ideas, but I thought it could be more than that. The climax was kinda a bit boring, coz the whole movie happens in only a similar space, not more than that; the ending was more dramatic and emotional rather than scary; it was on the 1st and 2nd. In the pre-climax, it was more focused on the demon; even though Bride makes a cameo, it felt like it wasn't as effective as the 1st. Overall, it was an okayish ride rather than a scary flick.

For a prequel, this has the wrong kind of title. Why did I just say that? It is because the 3rd chapter to a story, yet it is a prequel. It ain't being the formula of Despicable Me/Minions. It just should have had another title - a spinning prequel title. I have been spinning on this paragraph. Given the shake up of what it is all about, this would turn out to be an improvement. It will not go out to everybody, but somebody, who is so into the franchise. Acting has improving but still a mix. Unfortunately, plot lines can be forgettable with distractions.

Insidious Chapter 3 does a few things right and a few things wrong. I think this story was a little lack luster, and as someone who was a fan of the first 2, this being a prequel didn’t make a lot of sense. The atmosphere is creepy in this film, and the jump scares are genuinely terrifying, but I think as an Insidious movie, it’s just fine. Nothing crazy, nothing worth watching again.
