Critics Consensus

The International boasts some electric action sequences and picturesque locales, but is undone by its preposterous plot.

Whatever happened to the old fashioned spy sagas which had breakneck chases, busty women and non-stop action? Now it's all brooding fellows with sad back-stories.

The International is an occasionally cartoonish gut shot at the banking industry, its heroes white as white and its villains black as black.

This altogether self-serious thriller is a timely piece of conspiratorial intimation and multinational economic power and Tom Tykwer’s direction is both sleekly handsome and efficiently anonymous...

Assassins are no match for Clive Owen's powerful stare; it's all he ever brings to a gun-toting engagement, and it usually suffices.

I though it was an intelligent and engaging action thriller. And I don't understand why Luc Besson doesn't seem to have realized yet that Clive Owen is the obvious successor to do those smart action films that Liam Neeson is now too old to do.

This movie is way better than those scores. The plot is good, acting is great, scenery is good and action is top notch.

I agree that the audience rating seems surprisingly low. Slightly unsatisfactory ending but definitely a good telly watch!

I really don't understand why this film has such a low rating so far. It's gripping, mostly realistic, well acted, well directed, and keeps you on the edge of your seat. And unlike 95% of Hollywood films you can't see what's coming 15-150 minutes before it happens. How can this be rated lower than any Mission Impossible film for goodness sake? I suppose maybe it's the 'unhappy' ending that some people don't like.
