See more Nicholas B @RT55131437 03/14/2025 If Jeff Baena had ever hoisted a red flag for all to see, it would be hard to imagine it flying as high as it does here in Joshy. I really loved The Little Hours, and thought Spin Me Around was well under appreciated, but Joshy has problems that are hard to articulate without sounding reductive and glib. Whilst much of Baena's unique and incisive take on comedy/drama is evident here, this one is basically just tonally off. It only works by forcing it to work, and that gets pretty uncomfortable once you realise what you're doing. Still, it's a real loss we won't see any more of what Jeff may have had to offer. It's a little bro-ey but also feels very real to how a group of guys would handle the events involved - no spoilers. See more 06/27/2020 Decent watch, not expecting to watch again, and can't recommend. With Middleditch on the cover, and not knowing anything about the movie, I expected a decent attempt at a comedy, and I recognized other faces. And my heart lit up at the surprise of Alison Brie, which became a crash too quickly for me. The rest of the movie is just watching aggressive, controlling idiots fight with each other about the situation while the two people with the most problems try and fail to manage everything. The "go with the flow" attitude could be a good lesson for the movie, but for the absolute shattering in the 3rd act that says, "Here's reality, deal with your shit." Instead you end up with a "do what you can" lesson that feels really depressing. I feel like we shouldn't make depressing comedies, but this movie obviously had an important meaning for someone. See more 05/07/2020 The real moments in this movie feel uncomfortably real. Which is a good thing because they are all pretty uncomfortable moments.
