Felt sick after watching See more Akatsuki M @RT02027212 Aug 7 SPOILER WARNING: This is a strange and brutal movie, and while some parts may feel chaotic, for me it is really about how dysfunctional families shape people and how abuse can become something everyone chooses to ignore through denial, lies, and convenient silences. Dottie represents innocence slowly being corrupted by the people around her. I loved the contrast between her and Joe, especially the symbolism of the black and white clothes they wear. There’s a scene where he insists on seeing her in the BLACK dress, something she isn’t comfortable with, as he tries to drag her into his dark side. I actually found that pretty deep and well done. In the end, she loses her innocence by becoming part of that same cycle of violence, but ultimately does so in an attempt to break it and give the child she is carrying a better future. My only issue is with the direction and color grading, which feel a bit too flat for a pulp movie. See more Jonathan H @RT66479691 Jul 29 I had no knowledge of the premise or any expectation of what this movie would be, but holy smokes, it was bizarre. Perverted, pointless, and violent, with no real point to it all. I mean, I guess Matthew McConaughey & other actors did a decent job with the drivel they were given. But this was a very weird and off putting movie. And I'm perfectly fine with gross, weird, creepy or violent films if there is some kind of directional theme, or point to it all. But why an established actor like Matthew McConaughey would take this role is beyond me. It's kind of like Burt Reynolds in Boogie Nights. I cannot imagine why two people agreed to make this movie: Someone to create it and another person to greenlight it. Stunningly bad.
