This Disney animated classic follows a pampered cocker spaniel named Lady whose comfortable life slips away once her owners have a baby. When, after some tense circumstances, Lady finds herself on the loose and out on the street, she is befriended and protected by the tough stray mutt Tramp. A romance begins to blossom between the two dogs, but their many differences, along with more drama at Lady's household, threaten to keep them apart.

Critics Consensus

A nostalgic charmer, Lady and the Tramp's token sweetness is mighty but the songs and richly colored animation are technically superb and make for a memorable experience.

The quintessential American love story -- the one between the spoiled heiress and the spontaneous, fun-loving guy from the wrong side of the tracks -- has seldom been more elegantly and entertainingly told.

The wider canvas and extra detail work reportedly meant an additional 30% in negative cost. It was a sound investment.

It may be more than 40 years old, but this is still one of Disney's best-ever films.

No one's expecting consciousness-raising or cinema verité, but this is canine whimsy leashed by suffocating conservatism.

Especially due to its canine protagonists, the film finds a notable personality and energy that carries the film and creates a completely passable final viewing experience.

A lovely, classic tale. Yet viewed through modern eyes, it's treatment of class, race, and gender is problematic

This is my favorite Disney movie yet! It is an absolute classic! The animation is beautiful, from the movement and expressions of the dogs to the wonderful painted backgrounds. There have been a lot of movies about dogs, but this one is truly unique. It is told from the dog's point of view, like how Lady believes her owner's names are Darling and Jim Dear. The music is great, and it's not loud, scary or annoying. A must see for sure!
