When a boyfriend tricks Lucy (Scarlett Johansson) into delivering a briefcase to a supposed business contact, the once-carefree student is abducted by thugs who intend to turn her into a drug mule. She is surgically implanted with a package containing a powerful chemical, but it leaks into her system, giving her superhuman abilities, including telekinesis and telepathy. With her former captors in pursuit, Lucy seeks out a neurologist (Morgan Freeman), who she hopes will be able to help her.

Looks like most critics have little or no idea on appeal for an audience. I have watched this movie so may times because it speaks to me about, humanity, intelligence and the possibilities for humanity who currently destroy everything within thier grasp..... Don't listen to morons this is one for the ages...

Surprisingly this turned out to be one of the most ridiculous movies I've seen in a while. I'm not sure if it was supposed to be campy but I laughed out loud at times. Cerebral? Please. More like "mindless" and beyond my ability to suspend disbelief. I guess it was fun to see Scarlett kick some pathetic ass but otherwise it was just God awful.

Contains spoilers.I didn't like it. Even with the action, the calm moments are slow and boring. After 40 minutes, all the nonsense about "activating 100% of the brain" gets tiring. Besides, just because she reached maximum capacity doesn't mean ordinary humans are ignorant. Lucy changes her appearance in the mall in front of everyone and nobody notices. She causes several traffic accidents and no government agency goes after her. Someone with unusual, almost supernatural behavior would attract at least the FBI at their door to take her to Area 51. The only enemies were the Asian criminals, whom she chooses not to take down right away (but causing accidents with innocent civilians is okay, right?). The ending was terrible: her merging with the internet. It would have made more sense for her to merge with the universe, but okay.

Based on the reviews I expected this to be worse than it was, perhaps a little limited of what it could be, but still enjoyable. Can’t tell if peoples’ reservations are due to the remarked upon gender difference usually reserved for these stories, or if its scientific accuracy offends academic circles (which would have gone over my head anyway).

I attempted to suspend all disbelief, hoping for just some fun action. My recommendation: Just watch the trailer. That’s the whole movie and shows all the best action scenes. No need to waste your life. Fortunately I was stuck on a long haul flight so I had plenty of time to kill.
