Luv Ya, Bum! is, by all accounts, a standard documentary, including footage of the Oilers back then and copious interviews with people who knew him...that made me want to put down my Terrible Towel and pick up a powder blue pom pom.

Jensen does an excellent job of summoning the unique nostalgia of late 70s / early 80s pro football when the NFL was discovering its cultural foothold in a way that feels less manufactured than it has since. In that setting Jensen weaves a story that is as much about Bum Phillips as it is about Houston; work hard, play fair, have fun. The legacy of both continue to thrive today. Even if you aren't a football fan, Bum Phillips example of leadership is one we can all learn from.

Love Ya Bum held my attention from start to finish. The film beautifully shows how much Bum loved football—but even more than the game, he loved his players. He treated them like family, and that sense of loyalty and heart really comes through on screen. I also want to thank Vance, Karen, Troy, and Rachel for always making us feel like family. Your kindness means more than you know.

Luv Ya Bum took me straight back to a bustling H-Town, when Bum Phillips and the Oilers were king and the city had swagger and a lot of heart. Grew up here in the late ’70s and early ‘80s. A city that was flat-out in love with its team. And there’s never been another like it since.
