Katelen K @RT86731132 Aug 16 I’ve seen a good amount of found footage movies- this one was not a favorite. The acting was good and the plot had a lot of promise, but half way through the movie the urge to just shut it off was strong. It became unfortunately too boring too quickly with not enough action or twists to keep me invested. It would been really cool to explore more about what was causing the blackouts and the lore behind it, the concept made sense but I was still left with a ton of questions. It does get wilder near the end, with some better-than-expected visual/special effects, but the attempt at metaphor / social commentary was ultimately weak and the main story felt like it was produced in a random creative writing class. Much of the film felt amateur, except the special effects. Some actors were better than others. Definitely skippable for horror aficionados, but not entirely terrible either. 2.5 stars. Onscreen phone dialogues and interviews with unwary victims were incremental to the movie's premise. A wolf in guise, an entranced herd, a phantom in black, and the inquisitive siblings were perfect designs for this clever societal read. And the hearty work by the entire cast was instrumental for that task. From sophisticated monologues to easter eggs like the racial detail during the 911 call were noteworthy. It doesn't explain a lot of stuff at the end, but it's still just a really solid film all around. Saying too much information can kill the mystery of a story. It's simply just a great movie.
