Tiger Chen é um lutador de Tai Chi que quer divulgar o seu estilo de luta em um campeonato. Ele chama a atenção de um empresário que promove lutas ilegais que o convida para participar. Este filme é a estréia de Keanu Reeves como diretor e ele se sai bem. As cenas de luta são bem coreografadas. O roteiro é formulaico: o herói que é corrompido pelas forças do mal, até ele cair em si e se redimir. Também não procure aqui grandes interpretações: estão todas no padrão de filmes de artes marciais. É claro que Keanu se revela um melhor diretor do que ator. Ele sabe usar da sua persona para criar o vilão da história, mas no momento em que abre a boca... O Homem do Tai Chi é um filme honesto de artes marciais, com um diretor ocidental que respeita as tradições deste tipo de filme e o moderniza no que pode.

The story isn't anything special, but has some very entertaining fight scenes full of fast paced martial arts, although they tend to be understated rather than showy in their style. Reeves suits his role as the mysterious benefactor pulling the strings, but does look a bit out of place considering the rest of the cast. The film has a good length to it, but seemed to lack something overall.
