Mexicali is an entertaining action film that has plenty of action and stunts to satisfy action fans while also having a story for those who need just a bit more to their films. Go to Full Review

A familiar cartel revenge story elevated by Bren Foster’s presence and solid fight work. Not reinventing the genre, but a well-made, satisfying pick for action fans. Go to Full Review

TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch 1 day ago Mexicali was not a good film for me, and I honestly did not enjoy it. The story felt cluttered and all over the place. It seemed determined to be an action-packed movie without giving the audience a reason to connect. I kept waiting for the plot to become engaging, but it never found that balance. To be fair, the main character had some good fight scenes, and there were moments when the action worked. Unfortunately, those moments became excessive and cheesy. The screenplay needed more control and direction. More attention to the story could have made a difference, because the pieces never came together in a satisfying way. Ultimately, Mexicali felt disconnected from beginning to end. It had the ingredients for a solid action film, but the execution kept pulling everything in different directions. Rather than building momentum, the story drowned in its own ideas and never delivered the experience I wanted. I was disappointed with how it turned out, and I would not recommend it. But I found the film briskly entertaining, and the lead here- Bren Foster I think is his name- is more charismatic than I expected. He has a corny sense of humor, but it’s charming, and he’s physically imposing enough to believable in his fights. Speaking of which, the action in this flick is also pretty well done, and the choreography surprisingly really good, for what it is. Like, there’s nothing too much to say here, other than it was a decently solid action/revenge thriller (with a little bit of sports, too). See more Michael A @Kinich61 Jul 18, 2026 What a surprise for this type of movie. The title, though, is misleading since there is nothing here about the city of Mexicali that borders Calexico. See more Marc Z @TKDLife May 24, 2026 Mexicali is a terrific action film. It is more satisfying than the average action movie.Jesse V. Johnson is no stranger to the action genre. He has written and Directed some of the most memorable films of the past decade. Those plans are disrupted by the consequences of his character crossing paths with a Mexican gang. Direction here is very good. Foster, is a force to be reckoned with here. He is a gifted martial arts and action star, but can also do the heavy lifting of being a romantic lead. Mexicali triumphs as a kick-ass martial arts film with a strong romantic elements that enhance the story. It helps that Foster is paired with Tania Raymonde, who is delightful to watch in this movie. The martial arts and action fight choreography are well done. There is a visceral quality to the action and it is clear that the martial arts action is founded in an actually understanding of fighting and the arts but the main players. I really like the fighting in this movie. See more Robert H. @Rpharland Mar 24, 2026 It was so bad that I couldn’t stop watching it. The fact that someone paid to produce it is astounding. If in fact there is a real audience for this, the world is in worse shape than I thought. A drive-in classic. See more Les N @Vegas628 Mar 17, 2026 Rednecks will love it. See more Read all reviews
