Sermon 2 @RT49994268 Jul 23 This is a great movie. Simply done but the acting really stands out, everyone was excellent. Each actor was perfect, the directing was very good, I also liked the cinematography and editing. Kirsten Dunst is always amazing to watch, she is so good at showing genuine emotion that reflects the scene. Everyone was great really, especially all the lead actors just superb. That is what makes the movie so good; the acting and the way it was put together, I never heard of this movie but it caught my eye and I checked it out and so glad I did. I thought Adam Driver was especially good in one scene in particular. A great movie that is simple but effective. The biggest star may be the kid that the movie is about. I really wouldn't change anything about it - perfection at it's most basic and amazing way. Hats off!! Great film. Director Jeff Nichols, of Mud and The Bikeriders fame, delivers a compelling and moving film with his sci-fi drama Midnight Special (2016). Midnight Special is quite a unique film that reminded me of Stranger Things, Super 8, Akira, Close Encounters, Disclosure Day, and even Hell or High Water. Go into Midnight Special blind as it is far more effective that way. As we see more powers and learn more about these characters, I found Midnight Special totally absorbing with intimate drama. Nichols does an enthralling direction that is serious and emotionally charged. These dark lit night rides in muscle cars against dim lights are striking from cinematographer Adam Stone. Jeff Nichols is such a great director with a classic Americana aesthetic to his gritty films. Michael Shannon is tough and tender as Alton’s concerned father Roy Tomlin. I can’t quite decide if I feel frustrated or exhilarated that the answers for the mysteries don’t always become clear.
