After creditors make it clear they intend to foreclose on the family farm of Frank (Richard Gere) and Terry Roberts (Kevin Anderson), the brothers decide to take matters into their own hands. Fed up with unsympathetic and greedy creditors, they fight back by robbing the very banks they feel have been stealing from them for years. As the crime spree continues, the Roberts brothers serve as modern-day Robin Hoods, roaming the Midwest and eluding the authorities.

The story would have been stronger if we were given more of a backstory of what happened between his childhood (a brief glimpse is shown at the beginning) and the foreclosure of their home.
