Critics Consensus

Morgan neglects to develop its decent premise, opting instead to settle for a garden-variety sci-fi thriller with more action than ideas.

"What is Morgan?" the film's marketing campaign has been asking for weeks. Turns out, Morgan is just another sci-fi film that's only engineered to disappoint.

An initially intriguing but ultimately flimsy sci-fi action thriller.

Morgan is an unassuming little thriller, nicely put together and engaging enough while you're watching, though its memory is likely to vaporize hours, or even minutes, after you've seen it.

Has a lot in common with dozens of science-fiction stories but doesn't have any innovative ideas of its own.

This movie has already been done it's called Ex-Machina so I give it a 2 star rating (I hate remakes of older movies)

I forgot how many clues were strongly hinted at throughout the movie for the "big surprise twist" that is revealed towards the end. The first three I immediately noticed were being referred to as an "assassin," implying a corporate stooge who pushes cutbacks and layoffs. Still, we find out that it has a literal meaning, not a suggestive one. Second, there was the reflection off the glass, displaying a hallowed, ghostly figure that perfectly aligned with the embodiment of a predecessor. Finally, during the welcoming dinner, it is worth noting who is drinking wine and who is merely taking a few sips of water and not bothering to take a single bite of food. All these very strong hints were all within the first thirty minutes of the movie. After all these observational notes, I still enjoyed watching this movie. Yes, it tries to be metaphysically deeper than it truly is, but it's still a "popcorn flick" I enjoyed.

This movie had somehow escaped my notice but on one boring night I happened across it. With a notable cast, it starts out as a solid, albeit typical story. The acting is good enough, and you get invested. Unfortunately, there's a predictable twist and one that fails to land. By the end of the movie, you're just kind of waiting for the inevitable outcome. A solid premise and decent start, but ultimately falls flat. Good enough for a watch, but definitely a one time deal.

I will need to keep an eye out for Luke Scott films. Chip off the old block. Well paced and well developed.
