The movie is shot beautifully and the acting is delightful. Critiques did not understand this movie because it doesn't bombard you with whimsy and instead gives a meaningful message with a touching and fun story that paces itself in its own way. I would recommend this movie to anyone. See more Larissa H Dec 24 The low ratings is a surprise, I guess because I watched this as a kid and loved it! As an adult I still love the underlying message that 'the magic is within.' Mr. Magorium's character is a wonderful, electric and eccentric character, he embodies the powerful creator that we all have inside us. Mahony's dance at the end is a bit cringe haha, but the message is wholesome, in that we all have a sparkle and inner child that we must nurture. Yes, at the beginning, some of the toy store effects weren't as special as the director may have wanted... Perhaps a bit overblown, but once you get past that (that falls somewhere between the beginning and the half way point), this movie is an absolute gem. The characters are truly made to stand together... Alone they do not make sense. This film made me appreciate inter-character dynamics more than any other film I've seen, where I'm so used to switching perspectives based on each character. Mr. M's speech is iconic. The line that shook me: "Your life is an occasion. Rise to it." I literally want to print that out and put it in my cubicle at work. Life can get so serious, heavy, and hum-drum as we get older.
