In fact it's generally downbeat, moody and ultimately heart-breaking. But the quality of the production, acting and cinematography is first rate. The child actors deserve particular praise. At the final conclusion it was very thought provoking and thoroughly sad as it's based around real events that happened to real desperate people. The performances feel incredibly real, especially the bond between the father and his children, and the quiet storytelling makes every moment hit even harder. It never tries to force its emotions, which is exactly why they're so powerful. An absolutely moving experience. See more Whaley T @whaley Jul 25 I thought I hated it and the main character esp with how he didn’t give his children a chance to say goodbye or let one even pack, and then not let them say goodbye to the dog…it all made sense in the end though. I do wish maybe the main character’s emotions could have been slightly more evident on the surface when he was alone, so we could understand just how bad off he must have been to do something so drastic.
