Generally, a fairly capable film in which the work of its leading trio stands out. [Full review in Spanish] Go to Full Review

It's a barely comprehensible mess. It's too bad, because the trio of spirit hunters -- played by the energetic Rueda, Olayo, and Acosta -- are fun to watch. Go to Full Review

Phenomena is a little stale in premise, but spirited enough in execution to warrant a watch. Go to Full Review

The overuse of every ghost investigation trope you can use, from using a spirit board to possession, is pretty funny to see all thrown into one room. Go to Full Review

6/10
It may not be as fondly remembered as some other modern Spanish films on Netflix, but Phenomena does the job of entertaining the viewer. With horror elements and a light-hearting tone that turns darker the further the film progresses. Go to Full Review

Marco L @decatur555 Oct 22, 2026 A poor and frustrating Spanish horror-comedy that annoyed me even more because the idea was not bad: a group of women investigating paranormal phenomena in 1990s Spain, inspired by the Hepta Group, with a recognizable cast and room for local flavor, mystery, comedy and fear. But it works neither as horror nor as comedy. The scares are mostly mechanical: noises, doors, shadows, sudden sounds and familiar haunted-house tricks. The humor feels stale, forced and flat, without enough bite to be black comedy or enough lightness to be funny. Belén Rueda, Gracia Olayo and Toni Acosta have presence, but the script gives them very little to play with. The paranormal case is predictable, the tone is messy, and the Spanish context feels more like superficial wrapping than real identity. It is not scary, not funny and not memorable. A wasted opportunity with familiar faces and paranormal decoration, more concerned with seeming charming than actually being so. Not exactly scary, but it had a creepy atmosphere and a few moments that genuinely gave me the chills See more Pinoy Short R @emill_santos Jul 24, 2026 Pasado. Comedy horror na hindi masyado nabigyan ng exposure ang kalaban. Nabanggit lang sa salitaan pero di man lang nabigyan ng back story kung sino at ano pakay ng kalaban nila See more Peter F @RT28007450 Mar 23, 2026 As with so many netflix movies, the starting idea is not bad and deep down there is a good movie buried in there, but actually making that good movie would have required a lot more work (starting with writing...), and, honestly, talent, by nearly every division here. Also the movie ended where I expected the final chapter to begin, so I'm really confused about what turned out to be the ending. Overall, not funny enough to be a comedy and not scary enough to be a horror. The horror part in in fact a horrible thoughtless mess. It's cute, and the only thing this movie is interested in is the dynamics of its lead trio. See more Justin T @RT08580778 May 7, 2025 I enjoyed this more than I was expecting even though it is very uneven because of the tonal shifts. There are three great sequences with some mildly entertaining filler. The balance of comedy and horror or thriller is excellent along with the acting and casting. The film has a high production quality throughout. The story and characters are engaging even in the filler sections. It feels like an original film. Some investment in characters leads to nothing and it feels like it's desperately trying to justify a sequel or be accurate to a book which doesn't work well. Overall fairly enjoyable and certainly held my attention through the excellent set pieces.
