In 1977 France, tightfisted factory owner Robert Pujol (Fabrice Luchini) is so shocked when his workers strike for higher wages that he suffers a heart attack. His acquiescent wife, Suzanne (Catherine Deneuve), whose father had founded the factory, takes over management duties during Robert's convalescence. To her own surprise, Suzanne turns out to be a natural leader whose less dictatorial management inspires both her workers and local liberal politician Babin (Gérard Depardieu).

Potiche (2010) Class Struggle, Infidelities and Women Empowerment (12,265 - 09 Feb 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) In 1977, in France, Robert Pujol (Fabrice Luchini) runs the Umbrella Factory founded by the father of his wife, Suzanne Pujol (Catherine Deneuve). She is a submissive housewife with one son and a daughter in a loveless marriage. Robert is a tough administrator that gives bad treatment to his employees. When there is a strike, he is abducted by the employee and has a heart attack, Suzanne visits the syndicalist Maurice Babin (Gérard Depardieu) and he releases Robert. Now Suzanne will run the factory. "Potiche" (2010) is a French comedy about class struggle, infidelities and women empowerment. The plot takes place in 1977 and Catherine Deneuve is adequate for the role. The acting is good, but the screenplay could be better. My vote is six. A film that is entertaining and satirical but is nonetheless just a mediocre work. Catherine Deneuve surely owns the part though!

I don't like to give bad reviews but I have to say that this movie was pretty silly and not that entertaining considering the star power. The premise is interesting. I think the moral of the story is don't let anyone else's thoughts of you hold you back to realizing your dreams. You have unlimited potential no matter your circumstances. No real need to see this film

The genre pastiche was initially repulsive, especially the cloying music, but I put my trust in Ozon, and he of course steered it in an unexpected direction. Once I got on its weird wavelength I ended up finding it pretty emotionally absorbing and rewarding. It doesn't wink at the audience, or let the audience in on when it's being sincere and when it's being absurd and ironic, and I appreciate that a lot.
