I was expecting a drama with wholesome and sad moments, which is what it was trying to be, but I was given an overly bittersweet movie with poor acting and boring pacing that made the sad scenes feel fake. See more Par H @Parhwy Jul 9 Radio (2003) is a 109-minute-long US drama I saw on Prime in July 2026. I remembering seeing this many, many years ago, and the thought which stayed with me was a high quality, inspiring story, with a crescendo denouement. I did not enjoy this film the second time around. It’s not that the film lacks quality or inspiration, it’s just that… Perhaps I have changed? I kept thinking, "OK, we get the point you’re making, let’s move on," during the second watch. I’m not unsympathetic to the main characters or their stories. It’s a curious phenomena I have not experienced in a rewatch before where my original viewing’s rating drops so much on rewatch. It has nothing to do with Gooding Jnr’s criminal history; I didn’t know about that until after my viewing when I asked Google why his career ceased. Rewatch? No. Recommend? Maybe. 5/10. The problem is that the film pushes too hard for easy tears. Ed Harris brings dignity, Cuba Gooding Jr. gives a committed performance, and there are a few sincere moments, but the movie often turns real human pain into a sentimental lesson. It touches on disability, prejudice, race and class, yet it rarely explores those subjects with real discomfort or complexity. Instead, it smooths everything into a warm, inspirational package designed to make the audience feel good. It is watchable and well acted, but too calculated, too soft and too emotionally obvious to be truly powerful.
