When unemployed ex-marine Michael Williams (Nicolas Cage) stumbles into a bar in Red Rock, Wyo., the owner, Wayne (J.T. Walsh), mistakes him for a hired killer and offers him $10,000 to kill his wife, Suzanne (Lara Flynn Boyle). Michael plays along, taking half the money up front, then tells Suzanne what her husband is planning. She seduces Michael and proposes that he kill her husband instead. While he weighs his options, the real killer (Dennis Hopper) turns up looking for his money.

A bit of suspension of disbelief is required but its believable enough and the performances were really good. The cinematography is good at reflecting the vibe and setting. It paces nicely and doesn't get too convoluted or sidetracked from the main premis. A really good sleeper film that I never heard of for over 30 years.

Brilliant modern film noir. Cage, Walsh and Hopper are perfectly cast. Dwight Yoakam provides a hilarious cameo. Beautiful cinematography, choreography and scenery. This film is close to perfect.

فلم جميل والقصة متماسكة ومحبوكة، البطل ذكي لكن يظهر بتعابير باردة وساذجة احيانا رغم خطورة الموقف الذي هو فيه، وهذا الشي يمكن تفسيره من خلال الحوارات و نعرف سبب برودة لان البطل (نيكولاس ) نجاته من انفجار في لبنان راح ضحيته أكثر من 200 شخص خلته شخص لا يهتم كثيرًا لما يدور حوله وكأنه يعيش حالة صدمة دائمة، إضافة إلى الإعاقة التي تعرّض لها في رجله بسبب ذلك الانفجار والتي جعلته يواجه صعوبة في الحصول على عمل، هذه العوامل اعتمد عليها المخرج في إظهار برودة نيكولاس كيج في ردات فعله وتعابيره، ونيكولاس أبدع فعلًا في تجسيد هذه الشخصية بطريقة مقنعة وهادئة. أداء J.T كان قويًا ومتمكنًا، وقد نجح في تمثيل الغضب والانفعال داخل الفيلم وكان من أكثر الشخصيات ثباتًا في الأداء. بالمقابل، الأداء غير المقنع الوحيد كان للممثلة التي قامت بدور سوزان، فرغم أن الدور قوي ومع تصاعد الأحداث نكتشف أنها سارقة وأطلقت النار على عشيقها، إلا أن أداء الممثلة ظهر بشكل ركيك ولم يعطِ الإحساس بأنها شخصية قادرة أو خطيرة فعلًا. المخرج أبدع في تعقيد الأحداث إلى درجة تبدو فيها الحلول شبه مستحيلة، لكنه في النهاية يقدّم مخارج ملتوية وغير متوقعة تحافظ على تشويق الفيلم، أما التصوير فكان هادئًا ومتزن
