Wendy is all grown up, with children of her own, and as the blitzkrieg rages, she calms them with tales of Peter Pan. Wendy's stubborn 12-year-old daughter, Jane, has no patience for such nonsense until Capt. Hook uses the girl as a pawn in capturing his arch-rival. Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, and the Lost Boys come to her aid; however, even they cannot make Jane a believer in the magic of imagination. Unless she believes, she cannot fly, and there is no other way for her to return home.

Critics Consensus

With its forgettable songs and lackluster story, this new Pan will surely entertain kids, but will feel more like a retread to adults.

Give it another few decades and the 1953 film will still be around entertaining children. It seems likely no one will remember the 2002 sequel at all.

Peter Pan: Return to Never Land is one of Disney’s most underrated sequels and a surprisingly strong follow-up to the original classic. For a direct-to-video release, the animation is impressive, the story is engaging, and the film captures the magic that made the first movie so memorable. Jane is an excellent new protagonist, and her journey from being skeptical and losing faith to believing in hope, imagination, and a little pixie dust is both heartwarming and rewarding. Peter Pan remains as adventurous as ever, while Captain Hook and the rest of the familiar characters help bring Never Land back to life. What I appreciated most is that the film tells its own story instead of simply copying the original. It expands the world in a creative way while staying true to the heart of Disney’s classic. Overall, Peter Pan: Return to Never Land is a fun, emotional, and beautifully animated sequel that deserves far more recognition than it receives. I highly recommend giving it a watch.

This should not have been released theatrically. This should have been a direct-to-video movie
