What to Know

Critics Consensus

Road House updates a cult classic for a new generation, happily replicating the original's emphasis on cheesy brawn over narrative brains.

Audience Says

Road House can sometimes be so bad it's good, but more often, the uneven acting and ridiculous story are just disappointing.

In spite of otherwise flat-looking film-making, the action choreography of Road House 2.0 is thoroughly enjoyable. Go to Full Review

The gonzo magic of the 1989 original is gone, but there’s enough bone-breaking action here to satisfy B-movie aficionados. Go to Full Review

The combination of Gyllenhaal’s easy charm, some Florida sunshine and at least one fight scene for the ages make this Road House worth stopping by. Just try to grab a seat in a quiet corner. Go to Full Review

[The film] has zero big-screen appeal, beyond the charisma of Gyllenhaal. He does a fine job here, but what’s the point of trying when everything else barely works? Go to Full Review

As with many movies where a paper-thin premise quickly collapses by the end—and just like the 1989 Road House itself—this new Road House gets more joyously absurd as it goes along. Go to Full Review

Look, this movie isn’t trying to win Oscars. It’s here to entertain you with a healthy dose of action, humor, and Florida weirdness. If you’re looking for a film with a plot tighter than a boa constrictor’s grip, this might not be it. Go to Full Review

Wayne K @WayneKelso 3d I’ll admit to never having seen the Patrick Swayze version of Road House, but I imagine it’s starkly different from this one, which is a 2020s film through and through. The writing, characters, directing and effects all leave a lot to be desired, with events unfolding in ways that serve the plot, regardless of whether they make sense or not. Jake Gyllenhaal really commits himself to the physicality of the role but his performance is curiously apathetic. Basically the opposite of Conor McGregor, who’s sole job is to swagger around, smash things up and grin ridiculously at everything. So many elements make no sense, the romance is unconvincing, largely because of how unpleasant Daniela Melchior’s character is, and the villains are booth cartoonish and dull at the same time. It is fun in a ‘so dumb its hilarious way’, and the fight scenes, while overloaded with unnecessary CGI, are pretty amusing. If you go in expecting very little, you’ll likely have a good time. I have watched the movie repeatedly its so good and can’t wait for the sequel See more T M @RT55749265 Jul 4 Pure bubblegum macho comic strip nonsense. If you go into this expecting a thinly plotted fight fest populated by cartoon vilians and crowd pleasing action choreography you probably won't be disappointed. See more Alan J. @RT32714642 Jun 22 Some of the acting wasn't the best but I loved the action it was very fun to watch See more Jalen H. @RT89963720 Jun 3 The movie was fun and very entertaining! My only dissatisfaction was some of the fight scenes in the beginning of the movie specifically post Malone. Also ppl must really hate Connor however if you put your personal feelings aside and just rate his performance it wasn’t bad and really funny! See more Zahid T @Zahid2025 May 28 Jake Gyllenhaal was great but the worst thing about the movie which tanked it was Daniela Melchior. Here bad acting, terrible look and lack of any chemistry was it's death knell See more Read all reviews
