See more TheMovieSearch R @TheMovieSearch Aug 27 Some films are strange. Some are bad. And then there’s Rubber—a movie so bafflingly nonsensical it feels like a parody of cinema itself. The premise alone is enough to raise eyebrows: a lone tire mysteriously comes to life and begins rolling around the desert, killing animals and people with telekinetic powers. Yes, you read that correctly. A killer tire. And if that sounds ridiculous, the execution somehow manages to be worse. Instead of leaning into camp or satire, the film drags its audience through bizarre, disjointed subplots. A group of townspeople eat poisoned turkey for no reason other than to exist as an audience within the film. A random man obsesses over the tire’s rampage. And, perhaps most absurd of all, the tire “falls in love” with a red car—turning its driver into the only safe human simply because her vehicle has captured the tire’s affection. It’s an idea so ridiculous that it borders on self-parody, yet the film plays it with a straight face. What could have been an outrageous, tongue-in-cheek B-movie romp instead collapses under its own incoherence. Rubber wants to be clever, like an experimental meta-commentary on horror and audience consumption, but its execution feels lazy and empty. Even compared to other absurd cult titles like Attack of the Killer Donuts or Attack of the Killer Refrigerator, this one falls flat because it mistakes randomness for creativity. And just when you think the nightmare is over, the tire is destroyed—only to reincarnate into a tricycle. Yes, a killer tricycle. The movie ends with this possessed three-wheeler rolling ominously toward Los Angeles, as if teasing a sequel nobody asked for. Final Verdict: Rubber is a maddening blend of nonsense and wasted potential. It’s awkward, incoherent, and frustratingly unfunny. Unless you’re actively seeking the most absurd “so bad it’s bad” viewing experience imaginable, steer clear. Some tires are better left flat.
