After the fiery death of their mother, Joan (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her siblings, driven by a mysterious volcanic prophecy, believe it is their duty to cleanse the Earth. Their radical group hijacks a glamorous charity gala and takes three unlikely hostages for a sacrificial ritual: their hero, movie star Mike Tyler (Chris Evans); their villain, pragmatically cold billionaire Ben Bracken (Vincent Cassel); and their lover, an unlucky performer named Katie (Ambika Mod). As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur.

Audience Says

Like a black-tie gala gone wrong, Sacrifice has all the right ingredients but fumbles the execution, never allowing its potentially explosive social commentary to erupt, squandering its A-list cast in the process.

Sometimes you can feel the artistry in a movie that doesn’t work. See ‘Sacrifice’ for an example. Go to Full Review

It’s going for eccentric but more than anything it’s just mannered, because it doesn’t believe in its own hokum. It’s too detached to have a point, or even to embrace its pointlessness. Go to Full Review

The film is strangely watchable thanks to the sheer volume of curveballs and cameos, from a slinky Charli XCX performance to John Malkovich as a mad scientist with an indecipherable accent. Go to Full Review

This movie has all the parts that should make it an easy win, but an uneven tone and a muddled story keep it from really soaring. Go to Full Review

Purely within [its] various ideological oppositions does the film become intriguing, as perhaps only a medley of ideas this preposterous could reflect our current political moment. Go to Full Review

The Honest R @RT29830032 2 hrs ago A confusing movie with a good start that really fell off at the end. The acting and cast were great and Chris Even’s character had some great moments, particularly when he walks in and everyone is clapping to have him chosen by terrorists when he thinks they are just clapping for him. Unfortunately there are a good few scenes that are just underwhelming, including the ending. The outcome of the movie seemed inevitable from the beginning, nothing about it subverted expectations or was even an interesting display. What did you think about the ending? Make sure to tell us what you think. See more Alexander P @RT80805069 9 hrs ago Sacrifice is a wonderful, deeply emotional film with an amazing visual aesthetic. Romain Gavras takes a wild premise - taking three hostages at a glittering charity gala by a cult convinced that their sacrifice is the only way to save the world - and turns it into something much bigger than a thriller. The title is the heart of the film. The story keeps asking that saving the world comes at a cost, and who would actually be willing to pay that price. Anya Taylor-Joy is magnetic as Joan, Chris Evans has rarely been this raw, the rest of the cast is also cause for joy and every frame looks stunning. "[Everyone] gnaws at the flesh of tortured mollusks." See more Zhanna D @RT64618724 17 hrs ago What a treat of a movie! I’m so sad to see all the bad reviews, people don’t get it. This movie is on another level for me, so many layers.. other movies are silly cartoons compared to this one. See more Elena V @RT70247935 20 hrs ago This movie was so horribly bad. I stopped it 3 times and only forced myself to finish it because I do like Chris Evans as an actor. I wish I could give it zero stars. See more Bob T @AdamHart 1 day ago Certainly one of the worst films I’ve seen this year! Sorry to see Ms Joy in such a stinker. I can only guess the director was reaching for some meaning beyond the pablum in the script .., but he failed. See more Movie A @Movie_addicted_ 1 day ago I see a lot of negative reviews and I don’t understand. I made this account simply to try and give the other side. I loved this movie. I was laughing, anxious with my heart racing, still guessing what would happen at the end, and loving the unique storyline and relationships. Give it a chance. Don’t look for a hidden meaning, just enjoy. Chris and Anya do phenomenal jobs!!! See more Read all reviews
