Despite the script's cleverness, the presence of Tom Ewell, who is a first rate comedian and Oscar Homolka, who has long been a first rate actor, the entire film continually misses fire and fizzles out, like defective fireworks. Go to Full Review David Parkinson Empire Magazine Feb 2, 2009

Very dated and not consistently funny but famous for the iconic Marilyn air-vent shot and a close to the under-wire smuttiness. Go to Full Review Variety Staff Variety Aug 15, 2007
What counts is that laughs come thick and fast, that the general entertainment is light and gay. Go to Full Review George N. Fenin Film Culture Mar 30, 2022

There are chuckles to be found, though they're not as memorable as Monroe's costume changes or the iconic sequence in which she stands over subway vents in a white gown. Go to Full Review Virginia Graham The Spectator Jun 19, 2018
This is a wonderful comedy performance. So too, somewhat surprisingly, is Marilyn Monroe's. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Robert P @Superbad Sep 15, 2026 The Seven Year Itch = a *4* star Movie! See more Mickey B @Mickerdoo Aug 19, 2026 Shallow, dissolves the sanctity of marriage and makes men look like they have no control. Talks to himself too much. Only liked the wipes. See more Horror fan 4 @Horrorfan4life Apr 18, 2026 terrific romantic comedy with great performances by Monroe and Evell. The imagination of his character where he truly believes he's a lady's man was funny. Then temptation enters his mind as a gorgeous blonde moves in upstairs. She truly lights up the screen and in this movie we get the most iconic shot that includes a white dress. A classic. Watching Tom Ewell spiral the whole movie was funny. I read someone else’s review and they said it felt like a long episode of a 70’s sitcom and I couldn’t agree more.
