When Annie (Cameron Diaz) and Jay (Jason Segel) first meet, they have an instant and intense romantic connection. However, 10 years and two children later, the flames of passion have dimmed to dull embers. To bring back the spark, the couple decide to record themselves trying out every position in "The Joy of Sex," which seems like a great idea at the time -- until they discover that their private recording has gone public via the Internet.

Critics Consensus

With neither the conviction to embrace its smutty premise nor enough laughs to function as a worthwhile rom-com, the flaccid Sex Tape suffers from cinematic impotence.

In short, it's a PG plot for an X-rated story.

I counted three laughs in this wannabe bawdy comedy of errors, and one of them was a Breaking Bad gag so far past its tell-by date that even I got the joke.

Sex Tape is wittier and less smutty than its reputation might suggest.

A film that, while lighthearted and comedic, explores the daily routine of couples with children and how it impacts their sex life. It doesn’t really go anywhere, but it’s fun to watch—largely thanks to the leads.

This was more watchable than expected. I fast forwarded through a little chunk in the middle, but otherwise it was cute. It didn't quite hit all the comedic beats completely, but it got the idea across in an enjoyable way. And there is a lot of what I am assuming is Cameron Diaz's bum, which appeals quite a lot in a different way.

If you’re a fan of Jason Segel you should know exactly what you’re getting yourself into before starting this movie. It was funny and charming and also a little cringe in parts but a good boredom buster.

A unique concept that was poorly executed.

Cast is great. Movie is very funny. Deals with a subject that a lot of people have thought about, but they actually pulled it off. No cop outs. If anything, they leaned in further. Great raunchy comedy in a day when there aren’t enough of those. Jason Segel Is a gift.
