Los Angeles police officer Jack (Keanu Reeves) angers retired bomb squad member Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) by foiling his attempt at taking hostages. In revenge, Payne arms a bus with a bomb that will explode if it drops below 50 miles per hour. With the help of spunky passenger Annie (Sandra Bullock), Jack and his partner Harry (Jeff Daniels) try to save the people on the bus before the bomb goes off, while also trying to figure out how Payne is monitoring them.

De Bont has assembled it with masterly precision. And Speed looks terrific. There are breathtaking aerial shots, mind-boggling stunts, and camera positioning that you just don't expect. It's a rocketing eyeful.

I don't write movie reviews, at least until now. In my 79 years, I've seen some great movies and some bad ones, too! "Speed" is one of the best I've seen since my early days watching TV on an eleven-inch black-and-white television on LI, NY. Reality, excitement, speed (lol), action, and great acting by the people listed on this link made it so good! My life's experiences (good and sad) in the late 60's military, followed by a law enforcement career, help me with my opinions. GREAT JOB, "SPEED"!
