Alain E @AlainE Oct 30 So, this movie has its fans and other people who totally reject it and claim they can see the surprising conclusion from the get go. It’s free on Prime, so you can form your own opinion. It is delivered in superb color cinematography by the great Nestor Almendros. The framing of every shot and the selection of colors (red walls in Meryl Streep’s office, red floors in the house later on, for example) is first rate. There is decent psychoanalytical explanation of the characters, definitely less crude than in some of Hitchcock’s works, which however are considered canonical. The fairly young Meryl Streep gives an excellent performance, but this happened the same year she won an Oscar for Sophie’s Choice. The finale is a little improbable, as one would expect that the killer would have dispatched the psychiatrist when she attacks him from behind. In any event, I thought the movie was very enjoyable and successfully pointed incriminating evidence towards Streep’s character for most of the plot. However, according to an interview she gave many years later Streep herself is not satisfied with the result. On the plus elements, this is a movie about New York not shot in Toronto and actual galleries and auction houses contributed in the settings. See more Blu B @RT43513976 12/25/2024 It's like a mixture of a bad and almost incoherent because of how boring it gets at points, DePalma & Hitchcock Noir film. Schieder & Streep start out great and Streep is gorgous in this but than it gets weighed down by bad editing and pacing. The moment it starts cratering is when they cut to the guy who was killed and the weird Exorcist like scene with the little girl flashback it tanks. Than the auction plot line is so boring and I don't even know what is going on half the time because it's so poorly edited and hard to follow. I just got so bored in the middle. The direction is very hit or miss too and the cinematography isn't good. It's just boring to look at and scenes just don't make sense despite a solid setup in the first 15 minutes or so. Everything else is just alright about it. The plot twist makes sense but also makes no sense too. We never see as far as I remember (might have missed it because of how bored I was) the wife interact with the main two leads so it just comes out of nowhere. And she was just there in the back of the car also? How? The chase and end is kind of cool though despite making no sense. It's a simple Hitchcock style setup at first but devolves into DePalma style scenes at times and becomes a Noir that is so boring and hard to follow. Back to a Hitchcock style flick. The explanation from Streep also at the ened that goes on for 5 minutes is soooooo boring as well. You really could'nt visually show that in a flashback like the other crazy scene? Skip This. It's jsut really flawed and broken.
