Fired for their previous shenanigans, former Vermont Highway Patrol officers Thorny, Farva, Rabbit, Foster and Mac get a shot at redemption from Capt. O'Hagan and Gov. Jessan. The wacky quintet must provide law enforcement for a French Canadian town that's transitioning to U.S. sovereignty. Put me in the mind of the infinite monkey theorem. To paraphrase, an infinite number of frat boys hitting keys at random on a typewriter keyboard for an infinite amount of time will almost surely type a script at least as funny as Super Troopers 2.

Super Troopers 2 is absolutely stupid, but honestly, that’s exactly why it works. I watched the first and third movies before getting to this one, and the franchise has a strange ability to keep you entertained despite how ridiculous everything is. The screenplay isn’t brilliant, but it doesn’t really need to be. These movies are built around incompetent police officers doing things that make you wonder how they were ever hired in the first place. Somehow, watching them be this ridiculous becomes the entire appeal I actually found this installment hilarious. Sasso, Rob Lowe, and Sean William Scott all add something to the mix, and the cast commits completely to the absurdity. That’s what makes the movie work for the audience it’s targeting Critics can hate it all they want, but this franchise clearly has an audience that enjoys exactly this kind of stupid comedy. I also think spacing the movies out has helped. They haven’t been released constantly, which gives people time to miss it
