Critics Consensus

While far from Disney's greatest film, Tangled is a visually stunning, thoroughly entertaining addition to the studio's classic animated canon.

This snappy role reversal may or may not appeal to young men, but it inspires some classic knockabout screwball comedy and an exciting, vertiginous escape sequence. Go to Full Review

This is your basic, and very enjoyable, Disney princess musical, an empowerment tale to teach bright, dreamy girls how to grow to maturity -- and outgrow the adults in charge. Go to Full Review

Bolstered by an array of snappy original songs composed by Alan Menken and lyricist Glenn Slater in tandem with a superbly droll screenplay by Dan Fogelman, “Tangled” is eminently captivating, impossible to resist and, for the easily prone, tear-jerking. Go to Full Review

It might not be Pixar, but the colors, textures, and details modeled after French Rococo oil-and-canvas paintings are amazing. Go to Full Review

It’s all very bright and colorful, no doubt accentuated beyond the norm for the sake of 3D’s downfall dimming effect. Still, there’s no sense of wonder about the production. Go to Full Review

Robert P @Superbad 8h A funny and heartfelt review, this movie was great especially the horse! See more Kyle M @RT77296778 Aug 27 This is where Disney truly evolved in accumulated preparation of computerizing generated embrace of their frequent storytelling roots regarding classic fairy tales magically, or fantastically, envisioned superbly. From the lovingly brilliant animation to the delightfully unforgettable music that’ll imprint as much as you’d resonate towards the emotional storytelling ranging laughter to the neatly polished heartfelt resolution that’ll stick long after, bolstered by spirited performative charisma as impeccably cast, this is one of the best animated feats in the Disney canon that perfectly accommodate the generationally carried enjoyments. (A+) See more Annie R @AnnieMomMom Aug 27 I was so pleasantly surprised when I first watched Tangled with my grandchildren. My youngest, Scarlett, was about one year old and wanted to watch it every day that I babysat (just about every day). I got to know the songs, too, and I just love it. Rapunzel is not your typical damsel in distress, though Flynn reluctantly helps her out. Rapunzel is feisty, not really afraid of leaving her tower for the first time, especially with her trusty black iron frying pan, just reveling in her freedom. Each character, especially Maximus the horse and Paschal the chameleon, were terrific. This was funny, touching and just plain GOOD. But the one who stole the show had to be Mother Gothel, who was the Queen of gaslighting! All in all, one of Disney's best movies, IMHO. Thanks for reading. See more Candy C @Candycorn123 Aug 23 I can't believe this movie isn't rated higher, I thought for sure it would be in the 90s 😔. I love this film with all my heart, and people say its annoying that it only has three songs basically, but the reprises are genius and sometimes you don't want to be overwhelmed with songs! I genuinely love this film it makes me cry every time without fail and I think it should gain the respect it deserves. See more Philo M @Philolovesmovies Aug 18 THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE EVERRRR See more AJ B @AJ_BEAN Aug 8 Music was good...but compared to other disney musicals, this would be at the bottom. Not sure what I think about Repunzel...she just feels not relatable. Engaging plot. Fun animations. Recomend for kids See more Read all reviews
