Claudio C @Claudio666 Aug 18 Melodramatic Family Drama (12,631–18 Aug 2026 – Claudio Carvalho) When the engine of his ship breaks in Buenos Aires, Benjamin "Bennie" (Alden Ehrenreich) visits his estranged half-brother, the promising writer Angelo "Tetro" Tetrocini (Vincent Gallo). He is welcomed by his sister-in-law Miranda (Maribel Verdú), but Tetro gives a cold reception to him. He needs to stay for a couple of days and learns that Miranda was Tetro’s psychiatrist when he was institutionalized, and she felt in love with him. He also learns that Tetro’s mother died in a car crash while Tetro was driving. Along the days, family secrets are disclosed. "Tetro" (2009) is a melodramatic family drama by Francis Ford Coppola. The good points are the magnificent black-and-white cinematography and the acting of Maribel Verdú, Tetro is an obnoxious character, probably bipolar, and the viewer does not feel empathy for his personal drama. 127 minutes running time is also excessive. My vote is six. See more Isa B @RT32418990 10/05/2024 I love Tetro! A return to form for Francis Ford Coppola. Vincent Gallo was perfect for the main character. Alden Ehrenreich was awesome as well. He and Gallo were terrific onscreen together. The film makes you feel, which is about the highest compliment you can give a film. It is artsy and the digital cinematography is quite beautiful. Vincent Gallo is truly terrible. The rest of the cast does admirable work, but the movie simply devolves into bad Fellini/Red Shoes/ navel gazing incoherence. I was stunned by how wretched this was. See more isla s @RT89656869 09/03/2022 This has the look and feel of Roma, in that its a bit slow paced, its set abroad in the modern day and its (primarily) in black and white (plus it features subtitles). I liked the classical/continental style music played in the background, quite laidback and somewhat jazzy sounding at first and more classical and ethereal sounding later on. This is a film quite heavy in reminiscence (not always in a positive way), depicting characters who are mostly philosophising, to an extent. It has an element of mystery about it, which is good I guess and things do speed up pace wise a bit mid way through. It won't appeal to everyone (it may seem a bit indulgent perhaps?) but its certainly a nice example of a mostly laidback watch I suppose. It mainly focuses on the relationship between siblings - family rivalry perhaps. It looks at times like a theatrical production depicted partly on stage, hence it has a bit of a dreamlike element to it. Also, it is a film that references films and writing, so perhaps its a bit of a filmmakers film but that's absolutely fair enough. The director is the infamous Francis Ford Coppola, of 'The Godfather' fame. It does have a bit of an ageless feel about it. Yes, I think I would overall recommend this.
