In this remake of the horror classic, a group of young travelers, including Erin, Andy and Morgan, comes across an isolated rural home while driving through Texas. Unfortunately for them, the decrepit house is the residence of a family of deranged backwoods killers, most notably a hulking masked brute known as Leatherface, who begins to hunt the stranded youths down. Will any of the friends survive the nightmarish ordeal?

Critics Consensus

An unnecessary remake that's more gory and less scary than the original.

An initially promising, but quickly disappointing retread of Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel's hugely influential horror classic. Go to Full Review

'Inspired by a true story' presumably adds to the sordid thrills; maybe we should look forward to entertainments about Nazis torturing children. Go to Full Review

You'll have to overcome resentment towards this unnecessary remake before you can be properly terrorised but, on its own terms, it plays well. Go to Full Review

[The 1974] movie is rightly deemed a classic. Yet the 2003 remake, which bears its name, is better. Go to Full Review

This stylish remake is as unfairly maligned as the original, especially when it comes to complaints of gore and torture. This take on Leatherface is filled with dread and several sequences are horrific, particularly Vogel's updated meat hook scene Go to Full Review

jake W @RT53825124 1d Don't get why remakes are so hated by snobby film review boffs!? A great remake in my opinion! Scary, disturbing, i thought the acting was fantastic,Jessica Biel amazing, a chilling movie well worth a watch!! See more Clarence H. @clarencew Apr 5 The characters are so annoying & the acting so phony I had to turn it off. Lame. See more Jorge H @jorge02 Mar 21 One of the best horror remakes with Toxic Avenger (2025) Silent Night Deadly Night (2025) and Friday The 13th. really good and with more action Texas chainsaw massacre 2003 is a nice remake with a blood fuel going around like crazy! See more Joseph G @LicenseToChivalry007 Feb 28 Perhaps the strongest entry in the series. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), while not as frightening as the 1974 classic, adopts a more brutal, visceral approach. Bolstered by Jessica Biel’s strong performance as final girl Erin Hardesty, R. Lee Ermey’s chilling portrayal of the crooked Sheriff Hoyt, and Marcus Nispel’s atmospheric direction, the film successfully modernizes the original story. This version presents Leatherface as a more monstrous and violent figure while still offering glimpses of humanity. The film also allows its final girl to show moments of vulnerability and imperfection before ultimately emerging as the heroine. It’s not perfect and still doesn’t match Hooper’s 1974 masterpiece, but it remains one of the strongest entries in the franchise. See more Austin J @Austin765 Feb 15 The best remake to ever be made in a horror franchise. Jessica Biel played a phenomenal role & Lee Ermey was amazing in this one and the 2006 Prequel "TCM The Beginning" Rest His Soul! By far the greatest Leatherface we've had yet besides the OG one in 1974. Andrew Bryniarski was perfect for that role. Definitely gets a 5/5 Stars!
