What's in slow motion here is the progress of the plot. Every development is exhausting because we have arrived at it long, long before the characters.

Reiner benefits from divine intervention from no less than Miss M herself. Bette Midler flings the usual zingers with fang-baring zeal in a part that plays to her brassy strengths.

If this movie doesn't make you laugh, you have no sense of humor. Outstanding comedic dialogue.

I lasted only 20 min. Talk about bad acting!! In addition, even in those few minutes, it was easy to tell where the plot was headed. Ugh.

The actors are good (especially Midler who long ago perfected being the broad in "broad comedy") and don't appear to know they're playing stock types from a predicable, and predictably lame, script about mismatched partners who don't know their own hearts. I guess on a meta level, that means it all kinda works...
