Livia H Sep 23 Unfortunately this film missed the mark, It makes overgeneralised statements, employs fringe and pseudo scientists ( Gary Taubes), their understanding of the scientific method is shaky at best ad abysmal at worst, context is an endangered species in this disaster. They aslo miss that everyone needs a different diet depending on medical history activity level and profession ect. The phrase correlation not causation has never graced these peoples minds. See more DMC M 07/30/2023 I already knew sugar is bad. I already knew how it's hidden if my food. What was news to me was that I could consume the same amount of calories a day and lose weight and be healthier if I can drop the sugar. I was also sickened by how the sugar kings control everything and how addicted we all are. It feels hopeless, but this made me so aware, I doubt I will eat half of the sugar I was before. Mountain Dew needs to be pulled out of Kentucky BTW, that's just child abuse at it's finest what's going on there. Death to refined sugar. Besides the horrors - this film was also funny and def entertaining. See more 07/31/2021 An eye opening documentary on the effects of processed sugar and its pervasiveness in the western - primarily American diet and the profound negative impact our American consumerism culture on the health of the world - the pursuit of the almighty dollar. Unfortunately, the host spoke in "teaspoons" of sugar which surprisingly was difficult even for an American to visualize just how much if this sweet "cocaine" is added to everything we eat. How is it possible that hubby and wife agree again?? There's a lot of good information in 'That Sugar Film', however the approach of filmmaker Damon Gameau is preachy and at times he comes across as a bit of a narcissist. Perhaps he has an exhibitionist fetish also which would explain his constant need to be filmed in his briefs. In the same vein as Morgan Spurlock's 'Supersize Me' demonized the fast food industry, this documentary shines a giant light on sugar and how it could be the reason we are all fat and ugly. Gameau takes a particular disdain at America which is totally fair, but doesn't always ring true when it's an Australian doing the bashing. This is watchable and interesting, but the FULL frontal nudity (yes no undies) in a film that could be shown in school was too much. There wasn't a need for shock value when you're subject is shocking from the start, In the end, this was ok and we give it a tepid recommendation for the value that it could have on a person's health.
