O'Neil refuses that shortcut.Her Ellie is meticulous, brittle and quietly furious at herself for not solving this the first time. There's physicality here too, the way she holds her shoulders around suspects, micro-expressions when evidence doesn't add up — that speaks to real dedication.Most impressive is how O'Neil modulates Ellie's unraveling. Early scenes show a woman in control, sharp and methodical.The psychological toll mounts, she peels back that control layer by layer without tipping into melodrama. It's a performance built on restraint, making the moments she lets the mask slip land with devastating impact.This is award-worthy work! O'Neil doesn't just play Ellie Douglas, she disappears into her. The film refuses to treat its mystery as the only thing worth caring about. The twists are sharp, the plotting tight — but it's O'Neil's performance that gives it soul.
