It asks a question parents don’t want to answer: when your kid does something awful, are you going to hold them accountable or protect them from the consequences? Watching it now, with so many Gen Z kids growing into entitled pricks, the movie feels more relevant than ever. Maybe this is what happens when parents mistake defending their children for raising them. Everyone thinking about becoming a parent should watch it. Never did get what was what, but I can tell you that aside from being good actors their characters are bad. Laura Linney is wonderful, as always. Raises heavy questions about parenting, consequences, and how far we're willing to go for the people we love. The ratings are wrong. Not bad at all! It actually starts off well and then it wanders into many different directions, one of which even involves war scenes (?!) just a mess.
