This Disney animated feature follows the adventures of the young lion Simba (Jonathan Taylor Thomas), the heir of his father, Mufasa (James Earl Jones). Simba's wicked uncle, Scar (Jeremy Irons), plots to usurp Mufasa's throne by luring father and son into a stampede of wildebeests. But Simba escapes, and only Mufasa is killed. Simba returns as an adult (Matthew Broderick) to take back his homeland from Scar with the help of his friends Timon (Nathan Lane) and Pumbaa (Ernie Sabella).

The animation is incredible, with vibrant colors that bring Africa to life. I love how the colors shift with the mood of each song, while the greens surrounding Scar emphasize his villainy. The framing and placement of characters are incredibly deliberate, especially in the opening. Even the shadows during Scar's song add to the atmosphere. The voice acting is top tier. Jeremy Irons as Scar is one of the greatest villain voices ever, while James Earl Jones as Mufasa is on the same level as Darth Vader. The entire cast is perfect. The music is some of Disney's best, with not a single weak song. Hans Zimmer's score makes moments like the wildebeest stampede incredibly tense and emotional. The story never gets old. It's a timeless coming of age story about loss, overcoming hardship, and finding your destiny. It flies by every time. There isn't a single thing I dislike about this movie.
