Critics Consensus

Leveraging Ben Affleck and Matt Damon's classic chemistry to texturize a friendship tested by greed, The Rip tears into its potboiler setup with compulsively watchable confidence.

The Rip seems highly possible until its overblown climatic end, but even when it succumbs to the action thriller norms, it and the cast always keeps you thoroughly entertained. Go to Full Review

Joe Carnahan's crime thriller feels like a nice throwback to '90s genre pictures, but it pulls a few too many punches. Go to Full Review

I was entertained, even if for the longest stretches I couldn’t have told you who was doing what to whom. Chalk it up as yet another twist in the tale of Matt ‘n’ Ben – two Yin/Yang talents who will be yoked together for eternity. Go to Full Review

I'm a fan of both Damon and Affleck, and found the film engaging, yet parts of it were somewhat confusing to watch. I can recommend checking it out because their chemistry is always a treat to watch. Go to Full Review

A Netflix urban cop corruption thriller set in Miami that owes a lot more to the Den of Thieves movies than to either incarnation of Michael Mann’s Miami Vice. Go to Full Review

The Rip is a frustrating missed opportunity. It takes a golden premise and two of cinema’s best friends and buries them under a mountain of plot holes. Go to Full Review

Jay C @Bishopsgyal 2h I absolutely loved it! I was tense the whole time. I didn't know who to trust. It had me at the edge of my seat. This is definitely a 4 Star must watch. Grab your popcorn and beverage of choice and enjoy. See more Robin H 7h Should be good with that cast, but it's all over the place. No one has clear motivations, the action/fight scenes come out of nowhere, and apparently the sun never shines in Miami. Also you know a bad writer when everyone says fuck twice in every sentence. See more Walter S. @gumbywes00 9h Enjoyed it. Good ending. See more Katie Q @Kquinn95 15h Love the cast! This was a thrilling ride! See more Jackson S @JacksonSaci 20h this movie would be better if they were all dirty cops and working out to get the money 4/10 - very poor script, story... besides why do i need to avaliate acting? with this poor script and directing you cant even say anything. They are just there reading their dialogues and putting some emotion to it See more Ian F. @thismeansguerra 1d It was entertaining. It was fun something to watch what it wasn’t was plausible. It has some issues with like could this actually go down like this? Is this actually how stuff like this could happen or would happen but aside from those little things I enjoyed myself you know what I mean, like it was enjoyable so if you want something fun something that’s gonna take you serious then I think this would be a good flick for you to watch you do have that great dynamic of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck acting with each other, which is pretty extraordinary See more Read all reviews
