Bored billionaire Thomas Crown (Pierce Brosnan) decides to entertain himself by stealing a Monet from a reputed museum. When Catherine Banning (Rene Russo), an investigator for the museum's insurance company, takes an interest in Crown, a complicated back-and-forth game with romantic undertones begins between them. In an attempt to find out where Banning's loyalties lie, Crown returns the painting and essentially turns himself in, hoping that Banning's feelings for him will lead to an escape.

Perfect print, and the overall look and feel still seemed fresh rather than dated. The soundtrack was stylish, supportive, and always appropriate. The high-dollar cinematography kicked everything up a notch. Oddly, Pierce Brosnan was more attractive than Rene Russo, which made the romantic pairing feel a little off. The heist itself was fun, and since I love art, having so much of the story revolve around paintings and art museums made it even more enjoyable.

As a huge Brosnan fan, I'm ashamed it took me up until now to watch this. Very slick and clever movie. John McTiernan did an awesome job directing this. Satisfying mix of humor, tension, romance, and wit. The entire cast (beyond the established stars) really shined.

Greetings from Lithuania. I've watched this movie originally in 2000 when it came out on DVD. The second rewatch was only in 2026 when picked up Blu Ray by 88 films. I really enjoy this movie due to excellent performances by Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo - especially by Rene - she was amazing in this movie. Directing by John McTiernan was very good in here - at running time 1 h 48 min this movie never draggs and is involving and entertaining throughout. Overall, The Thomas Crown Affair (1999 version) is a fun, entertaining, well paced, superbly acted charming heist film with romance.

Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo bring new standards to classy; the acting is impeccable. The directing, locations, pacing, music and visuals are well-implemented. If you're a fan of spy thrillers it's a must see, or if you just like good movies it's the perfect movie to watch.
